Homemade Powder Laundry Detergent

A few weeks ago, my sister shared how to make homemade laundry detergent.  Well, I made it and it turned out to be thicker than I wanted and I didn’t have a stock pot big enough for the experiment so I decided that perhaps, a powder was a better solution for us.  I don’t mind powder and my machine has a special place just for the powder so that plenty of water rushes through the detergent to dissolve it.  (more…)


Embracing the Red Clay

Recently, I realized that my post complaining about clay-stained polyester baseball pants cluttering my laundry baskets was incomplete.  I took my camera to our most recent baseball games and inadvertently snapped four pictures that help remind me of why I do what I do.

It’s that time of year again–baseball season.

As a mom of five boys, four of which are playing baseball this year, I have come to resent the person who instituted an American sports tradition that combines red clay with white polyester.  That person did not have the better interest of future moms in mind.

In case you can’t tell, this isn’t me.  In fact, as much as I like to serve my husband, smiling and ironing do not go together in my book.  Perhaps I inherited that from my mother.  In our household growing up, we sprayed with water and smoothed.  Over the years, I’ve found alternative methods that work slightly better.  (more…)
